Overview
Modoboa Pro is a premium extension suite for the open-source Modoboa mail hosting platform, built for hosting providers, MSPs, agencies, and IT teams who run email at a professional scale. Where Modoboa gives you a solid open-source foundation, Modoboa Pro adds the operational tooling that busy administrators actually need day to day - automating the repetitive, error-prone tasks that slow teams down and replacing manual config work with a clean, native admin experience.
This is an evolving plugin suite, not a single feature. Each release adds new capabilities focused on one goal: making professional Modoboa deployments easier to operate, maintain, and scale. It now includes virtual hosts management and, since version 1.2.0, shared mailboxes.

Virtual hosts management
The first module in the Modoboa Pro suite turns your Modoboa instance into a fully branded, multi-tenant email hosting platform - with automatic SSL, zero-touch Nginx provisioning, and per-customer theming, all from inside the Modoboa admin UI.
Create, enable, disable, and monitor virtual hosts directly from the admin interface. Each virtual host maps to one or more domains, with live provisioning status tracking (Pending / Ready / Failed), clear error reporting, and one-click retry — so you always know the state of every hosted domain at a glance.
🔒 Automated Let's Encrypt SSL (ACME)
Issue and renew free, trusted TLS/SSL certificates automatically for every virtual host. Modoboa Pro handles ACME registration, HTTP-01 challenges, and issuance out of the box, with a background scheduler that auto-renews certificates before they expire (configurable threshold, defaulting to 30 days). No more calendar reminders, no more expired-cert outages.
⚙️ Zero-Touch Nginx Provisioning
Automatically generate production-ready Nginx server configurations per virtual host - config files, sites-available / sites-enabled symlinks, uWSGI socket wiring, and graceful reloads, all handled for you. Toggle a host on or off and its web reachability updates instantly. No manual edits, no downtime.
🎨 Per-Tenant White-Label Theming
Deliver a fully branded experience for every customer. Override Modoboa's UI theme per virtual host: custom primary, secondary, and accent colors, plus bespoke login, menu, and creation-form logos. Set only what you need - everything else falls back to your global defaults. Ideal for resellers and white-label offerings.
🧩 Native Modoboa Integration
Built as a Vue 3 + Vuetify Module Federation remote, Modoboa Pro plugs straight into the Modoboa admin shell. Controls appear right inside the domain creation wizard, edit forms, and domain detail pages — no separate dashboard, no context switching. SuperAdmin role-gated for security.
Shared mailboxes
Give your teams a common inbox (support@, contact@, sales@) without ever sharing a password. A shared mailbox is a regular Modoboa account that receives mail like any other, with aliases, filters, antispam and quota included. Nobody logs into it: its members open it from their own account.
👥 Members and access levels
Add members from the domain and choose what each of them can do: Read, Read and write (flag, move, file and delete messages), or Read, write and manage folders. Members can never share the mailbox further: Modoboa alone decides who gets access.
✉️ Send as the team
With Send as, a member replies with the address of the shared mailbox directly from the webmail. The SMTP server accepts it, and the copy lands in the member's own Sent folder.
📬 Webmail and IMAP clients
Built on standard IMAP ACLs (RFC 4314) applied to Dovecot, shared mailboxes appear under Shared with me in the Modoboa webmail and in any IMAP client that supports shared folders, such as Thunderbird. Read/unread status stays personal to each member.
🔐 Managed by your administrators
Super administrators, resellers and domain administrators manage the shared mailboxes of their own domains. Create a new one, or turn an existing account such as contact@ into a team mailbox and keep its messages. Its password is disabled, its sessions closed and its API tokens revoked. Rights are applied in the background with a visible status (Pending / Ready / Failed), and a REST API is available for automation. If your license lapses, the rights already in place are kept, so teams never lose access.
